About me
I’m a sensory ecologist. I am interested how organisms detect cues, such as sound and electric fields in their environment.
I completed a PhD in bioacoustics at at the University of Bristol in 2012. My research is focussed on how invertebrates detect sound, vibration and atmospheric electric fields. Some of my most recent work addresses how spiders disperse. Despite being wingless, some spiders can travel hundreds of miles through the air. They do this by letting out strands of silk and ‘ballooning’. My work investigates the role of atmospheric fields in spider ballooning behaviour.
